July 1 may be Canada's birthday as a nation (although some of our Newfoundland relatives might not agree with the timeline), but there's a lot else to think about on this day.
Take the evening, join us and unsettle yourself!
BC's legendary and seminal punk band, DOA is headlining the evening, joined by Victoria celtopunks The McGillicuddies. Speakers and info tables will provide education, and local food trucks will keep everyone fed.
Canada didn't just appear out of nothing - there were people and nations already here. Our historic relationship with the indigenous peoples of this land have been full of exploitation, theft and damage. Current relationships are not much better, but we can work to change that. Common ethics demand that we address our shared issues, whether they be Missing and Murdered women, environmental destruction, or social justice, equality and access to health care and education.
Before you enjoy the fireworks, come have a beer, have a think, and enjoy a chance to explore more of Canada's real history and current events.
Tickets $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Call or email the brewery, or buy tickets online from BrownPaperTickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2977354
